Missoula's Choice 2009

Missoula's Choice 2009

FOOD, DRINK & ENTERTAINMENT

Missoula is Restaurant City, among other things like "The Garden City," "The Home of Five Valleys," "A Place – Sort of." You can't walk three feet in this town without getting stuck by a salad fork. We have a zillion restaurants, so the competition is fierce in the food category. And the winners are ...

VEGETARIAN DISH
River Wok
Good Food Store
The Mustard Seed

DINNER UNDER $20
Montana Club

River Wok

Our thanks to everyone who voted for us. Without our great customers, there would be no River Wok.

Missoula's Choice 2008

The Best Vegetarian Dish

Tipu’s has changed hands, but they still give good veggie, and their lunchtime brunch, with its mouth-watering samosas and chutneys, has always been a Missoula favorite. The greenies over at the Good Food Store, of course, have a deli full of awesome veggie choices. River Wok also makes the cut as a good place to grab a veggie stirfry.

How It All Began

After 20+ years in retail, Thom decided to make a change. He'd always been told "you should open a restaurant". He'd been cooking for friends, family and even his coworkers for years. Everyone raved about his cooking. He is a natural. Completely self taught, he can taste a dish and then recreate it, and usually better.

Thom left his job in retail and began the yearlong process of searching for the location, designing and building the workspace, compiling and testing and testing and testing the recipes. We all painted, and cleaned and scrubbed and decorated until we were puddles on the floor. We were fortunate to have the help of good friends during those days. Finally, on October 18, 2005, we quietly opened the doors to the public. No fanfare, no grand opening, no advertising. Just open and they will come.

The first few days were too crazy for words. We didn't know what we were doing and it showed. The food was great, though, and the people kept coming back. And they keep coming back to this day. We have our regulars who are now friends. We have our students who we miss during break time and eagerly welcome back each term. We see new faces every day and sometimes we see them again the very next day. We love that.

We run this business as a family. It is only Mom and Pop and the kids. Thom is here cooking every day, all day. He is the only person who will cook your meal from beginning to end. Quality control at it's very finest. You can't find that kind of service very often these days.

Our mission is to provide you with the freshest, healthiest meal we can produce. We do not use prepared or packaged products and we never use MSG or any other preservatives. Our food is fresh and made-to-order. It is your dish, the way you want it. We look forward to serving you.
